Pregnant woman, husband burnt to death in Kerala after car catches fire

Police said there were five passengers in the car and people sitting in the back escaped after alert passers-by helped them escape, but the couple could not get out in time.
After a preliminary investigation, the police said that the car caught fire due to a short circuit.

In a tragic incident, a pregnant woman and her husband died after their car caught fire in north Kerala’s Kannur on Thursday, police said.

Police said there were five passengers in the car and the people sitting in the back escaped after alert passers-by helped them escape. Eyewitnesses said the couple was unable to get out after their seat belts became entangled.

The deceased was later identified as Reesha (26) and her husband Prajith (32).

Relatives said Reesha was in the advanced stages of pregnancy and were on their way to the Kannur district hospital after she developed pains.

“We tried to save them but the vehicle turned into a ball of fire and we also feared that the fuel tank would burst due to the flames,” said one of the eyewitnesses.

After smoke came out of the car, Prajith stopped the vehicle and opened the back door. He asked the relatives to clear the car. However, the pair were unable to open the front door and unlock their seat belts.
