Louisville shooting live updates: Suspect was armed with AR-15, mayor says

The alleged shooter in Monday’s mass shooting at a Louisville bank was carrying an AR-15 when he was shot by police, according to Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg. Craig revealed the details during an interview with CBS News on Tuesday morning.

Aside from federal laws that prohibit gun purchases by people with felony convictions, there are no Kentucky laws that prohibit gun purchases by state residents who have mental health disorders, violent felony convictions, domestic violence-related restraining orders, or anyone with substance use disorders.

Firearms are still banned in several places in Kentucky. Schools, government buildings, courthouses, police stations and all places where alcohol is served are gun-free places under state law.

Kentucky law contains no provisions to prevent firearms from being carried in several places, such as hospitals, places of worship, sports arenas, casinos, polling places and banks. However, local business owners and public and private colleges may also prohibit firearms on their property, but are required by state law to have appropriate signage on their premises.
