NATO and the US have warned Russia to “de-escalate immediately” as threat of war looms.

A written response to Russia’s security demands was issued to Moscow today calling on Russia to “de-escalate the situation”

Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in Brussels: “We call on Russia once again to immediately de-escalate the state of affairs.

“NATO firmly believes that tensions and disagreements have to be resolved via dialogue and diplomacy.

He repeated his call for Moscow and NATO to reestablish their respective offices in Brussels and Moscow, and to make full use of army channels of communication to promote transparency and scale back risks.

The battle hinges on Russia wanting the West to promise that Ukraine is not going to be a part of its NATO defensive alliance.
