The annual festival of worship of 14 gods, popularly known as ‘Kharchi Puja’, in Tripura, started today. The festival holds a great significance for the people of both tribal and non-tribal communities in Tripura. Although the festival is associated with indigenous tribal deities influenced by Brahmanical Hindus, only the heads of the deities are worshipped during the festival. Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, festival was celebrated with limited devotees.
