Flights grounded across United States after FAA system outage
Flight departures halted across the United States due to FAA system outage
Flights across US delayed due to system outage at FAA, says report
The Federal Aviation Administration on Wednesday grounded all domestic flight departures across the United States after the system that provides pilots with pre-flight safety alerts went offline.
The FAA said in a statement that it ordered airlines to halt flights until at least 9 a.m. ET while it worked to restore its NOTAMS — or Notice to Air Missions — system.
“We are now conducting final validation checks and repopulating the system,” an earlier FAA statement said. “Operations within the national airspace system are affected. We will provide frequent updates as we make progress.”
Airlines for America, an association representing US airlines, says the outage is “causing significant operational delays”.
United Airlines has announced that it has temporarily suspended all domestic flights.
American Airlines said in a statement that it is “closely monitoring the situation affecting all airlines and working with the FAA to minimize disruption to our operations and customers.”
