Viral video: Robber Crab lives up to its name; ‘steals’ black boot on Australia’s Christmas Island Beach

Video of a Robber Crab (coconut crab) ‘stealing’ a black boot on Dolly Beach in Australia’s Christmas Island has gone viral on social media. In the video, the Robber Crab can be seen dragging the boot along with it into the ocean waters. The coconut crab (Birgus latro) is a species of terrestrial hermit crab, also known as palm thief of robber crab. It is the largest terrestrial arthropod in the world, with a weight up to 4.1 kg. It can grow to up to 1 metre (3 feet 3 inches) in length from each tip to tip of the leg. It is found on islands across the Indian Ocean, and parts of the Pacific Ocean.
