Retail giant Walmart has announced job cuts at five U.S. e-commerce fulfillment centers, Bloomberg reported, citing the company’s regulatory filings.

The news comes after Walmart announced plans in March 2023 to cut hundreds of jobs at its U.S. e-commerce fulfillment facilities.

The move will affect more than 2,000 Walmart employees, including more than 1,000 positions at the retailer’s Fort Worth, Texas, warehouse.

In addition, Walmart planned to cut nearly 600 jobs at a distribution center in Pennsylvania, 400 in Florida, and about 200 in New Jersey. It also anticipates further reductions in California

Bloomberg reports that affected employees of Walmart could be offered other roles at the company.

Walmart said it has seen growth in some areas as it adapts stores and distribution centers to handle growing online orders, allowing it to reassign some workers to other locations instead of laying them off.

In a separate development, Walmart revealed plans to reopen its Chesapeake store on April 19, 2023, following a five-month renovation.

The remodeled store will feature an outdoor memorial space to honor the victims of the November 2022 tragedy.

The store will offer an overall fresh look with expanded shopping options, eye-catching displays and interactive features.

Walmart store manager Alycia Mixon said, “We are deeply moved by the community’s compassion and support as we continue to heal from last year’s tragedy.

“As we move forward with our reopening, we are doing so in a way that honors the victims and provides ongoing support to our co-workers.”

In February 2023, Walmart reported full-year revenue of $611.3 billion for fiscal year 2023 (FY23), up 6.7% from fiscal year 2022 (FY22).
