Video: Assam Congress MLA, cops face gunshots during visit to a village in Dessoi Valley along Nagaland border

Horrific scenes: criminals from Nagaland side firing at Assam MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi at Assam Nagaland border today. Miscreants targeting Moriyoni MLA fired around 50 rounds of bullets. Several hectares land of Assam has already been occupied by Naga encroachers.

Guwahati: In a shocking incident, Congress MLA Rupjyoti Kurmi, his security officers, policemen, journalists and others came under intense gunfire when they were on a visit to a village in Dessoi Valley forest in Jorhat district in Assam on Thursday.

A video of the incident showed that the Congress MLA and the others running for cover in the jungle as bullets were fired on them. Fortunately, no one was hurt in the incident.

As per the official sources, the disputed area where the firing incident occurred, falls between Bongaon and Sonapur villages in Dessoi Valley Reserve Forest under Mariani police station of Jorhat district and Changki village under Mangkolemba circle of Mokokchung district of Nagaland.

The MLA and others were visiting the area amid reports that some people from Nagaland were encroaching land in the area.
