Bandipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Bandipur Tiger Reserve on Sunday morning. He will interact with leading field workers and self-help groups involved in conservation efforts.

He also visited Theppakadu elephant camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve where he interacted with the mahouts and kavadis of the elephant camp.

Modi was seen feeding sugarcane to the elephants while interacting with the mahouts present at Theppakadu Elephant Camp.

He will also interact with the Field Directors of the Tiger Reserves which scored highest in the recently concluded 5th cycle of the Management Effectiveness Assessment exercise.

The PMO tweets that it will visit two tiger reserves

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on his way to Bandipur and Mudumalai Tiger Reserve,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) tweeted.

PM to launch IBCA today

According to the PMO, PM Modi will launch the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA). In July 2019, Prime Minister Modi called for the creation of an Alliance of Global Leaders to wipe out demand and firmly curb poaching and illegal wildlife trade in Asia.

The IBCA will focus on the protection and conservation of the world’s seven great big cats – tiger, lion, leopard, snow leopard, puma, jaguar and cheetah, the PMO said in a statement.

PM Modi to release tiger census today

PM Modi will also launch the ‘Project Tiger 50 Years Commemoration’ programme. During the programme, the publication ‘Amrit Kaal Ka Vision for Tiger Conservation’, a summary report of the 5th Cycle of Effective Management Tiger Stock Assessment, will declare tiger numbers and issue a summary report of the All India Tiger Estimate (5th Cycle). PM Modi will also release a commemorative coin to mark the completion of 50 years of Project Tiger.
